Facility Inspections
Although we gave this nursing home a poor overall grade, we gave it a B for our inspections rating. This is the result of the nursing home receiving a decent inspection report this year. Perhaps the most important factor we look at in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. It is typically in your best interest to avoid places that had too many severe deficiencies. While this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
Remarkably, we awarded this nursing home a grade of C for our nursing rating, which isn't a bad grade. Our nursing rating focuses on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We look at both the levels of skill of those nurses and the amount of time spent with residents. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics. Although this facility got dinged a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in some of these quality metrics. With fewer than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it did very well in this area. This is often an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as having a protocol of moving a patient more often.

Short-term Care Quality
Incredibly, we gave this nursing home a grade of C for our short-term care grade, which is not a bad grade. Short-term care ratings are based in part on the facility's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a wide spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, in addition to other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. Finally, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 4.9 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.
Long-term Care Quality
The next category we analyzed was long-term care. We gave it an abysmal F in this category, which is a very poor score. When nursing homes receive this kind of score in this category it is a bad sign for patient care and it may mean that the facility is not as well-staffed with nurses and aids. After assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. We were disappointed to learn that this nursing home vaccinated a relatively low 33.070866 percent of its residents against pneumonia. To our surprise, this place was actually decent at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This is its best score in this category.
