Short-term Care Quality
In addition to being a quality nursing home overall, this nursing home excelled in our short-term care category, where it earned an A. Few facilities fared better in this category. In calculating these short-term care ratings, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our purpose is to create a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last item we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents that were able to return home from the facility. We found that 5.8 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home performed well in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category, which is one of our highest scores. When computing a facility's nursing score, we assess the number of hours nurses commit to residents and the level of skill of the nurses. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Facility Inspections
Turning to another of this facility's strengths, it also received a very impressive inspection grade. In fact, inspections turned out to be one of its best grades. In that category, we awarded this facility an impressive grade of B+. Arguably the most important factor we consider in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with better grades in this area typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G through L. This means that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
The next category we looked at proved to be this nursing home's poorest area. Nevertheless, even in its worst category we still gave it a decent grade of C for long-term care. For patients seeking a permanent residence as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care is a very important category. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. This place was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
