In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home received an A+ in the area of short-term care. Our short-term care grades are crucial for people looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a wide spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. This nursing home is the gold standard in terms of skilled nursing staffing. The facility provided roughly 50% more physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. This is what we like to find when grading a nursing home in this category. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who ultimately returned home from this nursing home. On top of excelling in the area of physical therapy hours, we found that it fared as well as just about any nursing home in the nation in this area with 71.2 percent of its patients returning home. Most facilities are below 50 percent in this metric.

One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing score. Nursing proved to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home an A+. Our nursing grade is based on a handful of subcategories, but the main one is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home provided 5.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This was one of the more impressive totals we found. In addition, a significant percentage of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. On top of offering high levels of care, this facility also excelled in the quality measures we looked at. For example, it performed as well as any nursing home in the country in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these metrics as predictive measures of the quality of nursing care provided.

The next area we analyzed is long-term care. This nursing home excelled in our long-term care rating also. We gave them an exemplary score of A+ in this area. Facilities that receive this type of grade in long-term care typically provide consistent around the clock care to ensure residents are well cared for. In addition to patient-friendly nursing hour statistics, this facility's vaccination records is first-rate as well. In fact, this facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Adding to an already impressive profile, this facility also earned virtually flawless inspection reports in recent years. As a result, we awarded it an A+ inspection grade. This completed its perfect A+ report card. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection ratings. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being quite minor. This nursing home received 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This indicates that CMS did not deem any of these deficiencies an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
