Long-term Care Quality
We also found that this facility excelled in long-term care. We gave them an A+ in this category. Nursing homes that excel in this category tend to provide patients with closer supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. On top of offering very impressive levels of nurse staffing, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. This statistic is also much better than most nursing homes. This combination proved to be successful as this place was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Facility Inspections
This facility also earned an A+ inspection grade, making it one of the rare nursing homes to receive multiple A+'s in our category grades. This grade is based on the nursing home's inspections. An A+ in this category is one of the highest complements we can pay to a nursing home. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection ratings. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are relatively insignificant. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
This first-rate facility also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A+. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Our nursing score assesses the facility's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of skill of the nurses as well as the number of hours spent with patients. This nursing home provided 4.4 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This was one of the more impressive figures we found. In addition, a significant portion of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. These are both really impressive figures. In addition to providing impressive levels of nursing care, this facility also excelled in the quality measures we looked at. For example, it performed as well as any facility in the country when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We look at these areas as reliable measures of the caliber of nursing care being provided.
Short-term Care Quality
Moving on to the fourth category, this nursing home also performed well in the short-term care category. We gave it a grade of A for that area. This wrapped up a straight A profile. In the area of short-term care, we strive to assess indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We analyze a facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. This nursing home is substantially above average in terms of its quantity of both physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its patients. In fact, it supplied roughly 50% more care per patient from both of these care providers than the typical nursing home provided. The last metric we assessed in this category is the number of patients that were able to return home from the facility. We found that it performed better than most facilities in this area with 52 percent of its residents returning home.
