Long-term Care Quality
In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home received an A+ in the area of long-term care. When facilities receive a grade in this range in this category it generally means it's well-staffed and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. After considering the quantity of nursing care, we turned to the facility's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia sadly is often a life or death ailment for nursing home patients so we like it when a nursing home does not take any chances. Finally, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. With 1.98 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility was just about middle of the pack in this area.
Facility Inspections
Adding to an already impressive profile, this facility also received virtually flawless health inspections in recent years. As a result, we awarded it an A+ inspection grade. Inspection grades weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher grades in this area usually have few of these severe deficiencies. This facility was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies to cause an imminent threat to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home also received an A+ nursing grade, making it one of the few nursing homes to receive multiple A+ category grades. Our nursing category includes several components, most of which are associated with quantities of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides high levels of nursing care, averaging 3.9 hours per resident daily. This is more nursing care than most nursing homes provide. Lastly, this place also excelled in several quality measures we assessed. With fewer than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the nation in this category.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we graded is short-term care, where this facility was awarded a B+. This topped off a very impressive report card. Only a select few facilities received a B+ or better in all four categories. With our short-term care grade, we try to craft a meaningful barometer for rehabilitation. In doing so, we analyze a facility's levels of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides more care with registered nurses to its residents than the average nursing home. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents that ultimately were able to return home from this facility. We found that it performed respectably with 48.3 percent of its residents returning home.
