Facility Inspections
While we were not high on this place overall, we awarded it a B+ for our inspections rating. This score is much more impressive than the place's overall score. Our inspection grades are tied to many pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these inspections. You should especially avoid facilities with severe deficiencies associated with endangerment of patients. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Not having any deficiencies proved to be this nursing home's greatest strength.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing score. This turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this facility an C. We looked at the qualifications of nurses working for the nursing home, in addition to the quantity of time those nurses were with residents, in calculating our score in this area. According to its CMS reports, this place provided an average of 4 hours of nursing care per patient each day, which was above the national average. Lastly, we also factored a few quality-based metrics into our nursing grades. This nursing home was relatively weak in some of the major metrics we look at, with below average scores for minimizing its patients' major falls and pressure ulcers. These areas are generally reliable measures of the quality of nursing care provided.
Long-term Care Quality
The next best category we gave this nursing home in any category came in the area of long-term care, where we gave it a grade of C. Long-term care grades are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of care. This means a vast scope of personal care services, ranging from help with activities of daily living to routine healthcare services. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination data. We were pleased to find that this nursing home vaccinated 98.52217 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.58 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than most nursing homes.
Short-term Care Quality
Moving on to our last category, this facility really didn't fare very well in this area either. Due to an abysmal grade of F in short-term care, this is really as as uninspiring as it gets. Our short-term care ratings are thought to be most critical for those requiring rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation typically utilizes more highly-skilled nursing. This means not just nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other types of therapy. As you might expect, we found that this nursing home provides significantly less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the typical facility. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents who ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 26.1 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
