Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

One of the reasons this turned out to be a strong facility is that it received a very impressive long-term care grade. In fact, long-term care is its best grade. In that area, we gave this nursing home an A-. For long-term care residents, the facility's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. After assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 84.53039 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is a few points below what we expected but still a decent percentage. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we like to see, we were pleased to find place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

In addition, this nursing home also received favorable short-term care grades this year. Indeed, we gave it one of our stronger scores in that category, with a score of B+. Short-term care grades are commonly used to grade a nursing home's rehabilitation services. To have highly scored rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to provide higher levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last statistic we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
