For long-term care residents, the facility's primary goal is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. After looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 85.91398 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which happens to be somewhat less than we expected but still a decent figure. We found that this nursing home had 1.98 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is close to average in this area.
Facility Inspections
In addition, this nursing home also received a nearly flawless government inspection report. As a result, it received one of our best grades in that category with an A. Inspection scores are tied to many datapoints found on the a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities that receive favorable grades in this area typically have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Fortunately, although this nursing home had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
Among its many impressive grades, this facility received an excellent nursing grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A- in that category. The nursing grade is based on a number of factors. The most heavily weighted one is the amount of time nurses spend with patients. This particular nursing home provided 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed better than average in this area. This is often a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we scored is short-term care. This nursing home was given a better than average short-term care rating this year, with a C. Even though this wasn't quite as dominant as several of its other category grades, this remains a decent grade for that area. In calculating our short-term care grades, we analyze the facility's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other types of therapists. This rating is typically a reliable assessment of a facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. One of this nursing home's strengths is registered nurse hours. We found that it offers more care from registered nurses to its residents than most facilities. The final statistic we considered in this area is the percentage of patients that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 24 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
