Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to being a strong facility overall, it also earned A+ inspections recently. Its inspections were virtually perfect. Inspection grades account for a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher grades in this area usually have very few of these severe deficiencies. Unfortunately, we weren't able to locate deficiency data for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

This nursing home also received an A+ for its nursing grade. Nursing grades are mostly associated with a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as having a protocol of turning a patient more often.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

The next area we looked at was short-term care. This nursing home also was given an A+ short-term care grade, rendering it one of the few facilities to be awarded several A+ category grades. In determining our short-term care ratings, we assess a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This rating is often a reliable assessment of a facility's rehabilitation services. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final item we considered in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that 5.7 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

In our final category, this facility was given another A+ for its long-term care score, finishing off an amazing profile of A+'s in each of our categories. Facilities that receive this kind of score in this category typically provide consistent around the clock care to make sure patients are kept in good health. One of the criteria we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccines. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccination is a great way to avoid negative health outcomes for the senior population. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
