Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to being a strong facility overall, it also earned A+ inspections recently. Its inspections were virtually perfect. Inspection grades account for a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher grades in this area usually have very few of these severe deficiencies. Unfortunately, we weren't able to locate deficiency data for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

This nursing home also received an A+ for its long-term care score. Facilities that do well in this category tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to patients. One of the factors we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccines. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccination is a reliable method to avoid unnecessary deaths and hospitalizations for the nursing home population. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility excelled in our nursing rating. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. Our nursing grade focuses on the facility's level of nurse staffing. We weigh both the levels of skill of those nurses as well as the quantity of hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Moving on to the next area, this nursing home also performed well in our short-term care category. We gave it a grade of A in this area. This finalized truly elite report card. In determining our short-term care scores, we size up the nursing home's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. This area is often a fair assessment of the nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last measure we considered in this category is the number of residents who eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that 5.3 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
