Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to being a strong facility overall, it also earned A+ inspections recently. Its inspections were virtually perfect. Inspection grades account for a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher grades in this area usually have very few of these severe deficiencies. Unfortunately, we weren't able to locate deficiency data for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

This nursing home also received an A+ for its short-term care score. Short-term care grades are generally used to assess a facility's performance with rehabilitation. In order to offer highly graded rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to provide higher levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last item we looked at in this area is the number of patients that were able to return home from the nursing home. Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

We also awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for its nursing grade. In computing a facility's nursing rating, we weigh the amount of time nurses spend with residents as well as the level of skill of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as employing a policy of moving a resident even once per day.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Switching gears to our next category, this facility was given a highly favorable long-term care score. We awarded it a grade of A in this area, giving this facility straight A's. Facilities that do well in this category typically provide patients with more supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is far higher than the average nursing home. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
