One of the reasons this ended up being a great nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this area. Inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

In that category, we gave this facility an A. When determining our nursing ratings, we assess both nursing hours and the skill levels of those nurses. This particular nursing home provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. Long-term Care Quality
The third area we assessed was long-term care. Adding to its top-shelf profile, this nursing home also excelled in that area. In fact, we awarded it a of A- in that area. For long-term care residents, the primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. After looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 91.18541 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is a few points less than we were hoping for but still a decent figure. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we analyzed turned out to be this nursing home's weakest category. However, even in its weakest link we still gave it an acceptable grade of C for our short-term care category. Our short-term care grades are thought to be most important for folks in need of rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally requires additional skilled nursing. This means not merely nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final datapoint we considered in this category is the number of residents that returned home from the facility. We found that just 3.7 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. Unfortunately, this was below average.
