Facility Inspections
The primary reason this ended up being a decent nursing home is that it received an excellent inspection score. In fact, its inspection grade was far better than its overall grade. In the inspections category, we gave this facility an A-. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection scores. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite minor. While this place had some deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing score. In that category, we awarded this nursing home an B-. Nursing scores are based in large part on quality and quantity of nursing care. This nursing home provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is a low total compared with most other facilities. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place surprisingly fared better in some of the quality measures we looked at. In fact, it scored well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is just as important as the quantity of hours of care offered.

Short-term Care Quality
We gave this nursing home just a D for our short-term care score. This is not an impressive grade. Our short-term care ratings are presumably more critical for folks in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation usually mandates more skilled nursing. This means not just nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The last measure we assessed in this category is the number of residents that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 4 percent of its residents returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below average.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we analyzed is long-term care. Sadly, it received a lowly F in this category, which is a poor score. This is clearly a major disappointment. Facilities that receive this type of grade in this category may not provide the type of consistent around the clock care that some other nursing homes provide. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination record. Candidly, we were a bit alarmed this nursing home vaccinated 72.26277 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is quite a few points lower than average. To our surprise, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This was its best score in this category.
