Facility Inspections

Grade: A

Although we didn't grade this facility favorably overall, we did give it an excellent grade in the area of inspections, where it received an A. Inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

We awarded this nursing home just a D for our long-term care grade and that actually wound up as its second most favorable category. When facilities receive this kind of grade in this category it is typically a bad sign for patient care and it may indicate that the facility is not as well-staffed with nurses and aids. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. We were a bit alarmed this facility vaccinated a relatively low 75.55556 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. This is its best feature in this category.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Another unfortunate development is the F this nursing home was given in the category of short-term care. Our short-term care scores are presumably most critical for residents in need of rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally mandates higher levels of skilled nursing. This includes not just nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. With a score this poor in this area, we were not stunned to discover this facility was well below average in multiple staffing metrics we focus on. It supplied far fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most other facilities. The final metric we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents that returned home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 0 percent of its residents returning home. This was well below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

The next area we assessed is nursing. This nursing home was given a poor grade of F in this area. There are a number of data points within this area. Many of the factors are tied to nurse staffing. This facility offered just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is not a very impressive figure. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. This facility performed well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
