Facility Inspections
Although we didn't grade this facility favorably overall, we did give it an excellent grade in the area of inspections, where it received an A. Inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
We awarded this nursing home just a D for our long-term care grade and that actually wound up as its second most favorable category. When facilities receive this kind of grade in this category it is typically a bad sign for patient care and it may indicate that the facility is not as well-staffed with nurses and aids. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. We were a bit alarmed this facility vaccinated a relatively low 73.29974 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. This is its best feature in this category.

Nurse Quality
Turning to the area of nursing care, this facility received a grade of just D in this category. Our nursing rating includes many datapoints, many of which are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This facility offered a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is an alarmingly low total. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing scores. This place fared well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these statistics to be measures of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we scored was short-term care, is this nursing home's least impressive area. We gave this facility a D in that category. In computing these short-term care ratings, we analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to create a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Based on its poor rating in this category, we weren't surprised to find that this facility offers significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most nursing homes. The final datapoint we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients that eventually returned home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 0 percent of its residents returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below the national average.
