Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

While this facility's overall grade was not bad, it really fared well in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A+ for that category, which is one of our best scores. Inspection scores are based on items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this area have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. We should point out that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in this industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Additionally, we gave this facility a B in our short-term care category. This is one of our higher scores. In the area of short-term care, we attempt to qualify indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We assess a facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final measure we considered in this area is the number of residents that eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that 5.7 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility's next best category grade came in the area of nursing. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of B-. Our nursing grade is mostly based on a facility's level of nurse staffing. This place provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we were hoping for. Finally, while this nursing home got docked a bit for nursing hours, it excelled in some of our quality-based metrics. With fewer than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it did remarkably well in this metric.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The last area we assessed was long-term care, was this nursing home's worst category. We gave this facility a D in this area. This really was one of just a couple of dings on a strong report card. For patients seeking a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are a key measure. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 94.071144 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is more than the majority of nursing homes. To our surprise, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than most nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
