Facility Inspections

Grade: A

While this nursing home's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we gave it an A for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Perhaps the most important factor we look at in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. It is generally in your best interest to avoid places that had too many severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this facility only received a D for its long-term care grade, which happens to be one of its more respectable category grades. When facilities receive a score in this range in long-term care it generally means the facility didn't perform well in our quality measures relating to resident care. After looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination data. Frankly, we were a bit alarmed this nursing home vaccinated 90.71429 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which happens to be several points less than the national average. To our surprise, this place actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The third category we looked at was short-term care. This facility's was given a low-end short-term care score where it was given an F. In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to evaluate indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We look at a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Given its score in this area, we weren't surprised to discover that this place was well below average in terms of the number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its residents based on the figures we looked at. Frankly, this was about what we expected to find. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 4.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

Switching gears to the final area, this nursing home really did not perform well in this category either. With a bottom of the barrel grade of F in nursing, this is just about as terrible as it gets. There are several criteria included in this area. Many of the subcategories relate to staffing levels. This nursing home provides 0.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing ratings. This nursing home performed well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
