Facility Inspections
Although we were not high on this facility overall, we awarded it a B for our inspections rating. This score is far more impressive than the facility's overall grade. Inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
One of this nursing home's better category grades came in the area of long-term care. This proved to be its second best category. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a B-. For prospective residents looking for a permanent residence as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are an important measure. After looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination statistics. We were pleased to learn that this nursing home vaccinated 95.35865 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Lastly, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality
We were stunned to find that this facility also excelled in the area of nursing. We awarded it a grade of D for that category, which is one of our best grades. When computing our nursing grades, we look at both nursing hours and the training levels of the nurses. With a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient per day, this facility's nurse staffing levels were quite a bit below the national average. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing scores. This facility fared well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility's worst area is short-term care, which is the final category we looked at. In this category, we gave this facility a grade of D. In computing our short-term care grades, we size up a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. This category is considered to be a meaningful assessment of the facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Lastly, we considered the number of residents who ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 5.2 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
