Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the reasons this place ended up being a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ in our inspections category. This is just about as good as it gets in this very important category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection scores. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are quite insignificant. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Adding to its strong performance in other areas, we gave this nursing home a grade of A for its short-term care score. Short-term care scores are vital for prospective residents requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. This means a broad scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. We were not able to find information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 6.5 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility is also strong in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of B+. It outperformed most nursing homes in this category. Nursing scores are based largely on levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a protocol of turning a patient at least once a day.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Moving on to the final category, this nursing home also performed well in the long-term care category. In fact, we awarded it a B+ for this area. This wrapped up a first-rate profile. Long-term care grades of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. After considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination records. It does not look like this nursing home submitted data regarding vaccinations. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
