Facility Inspections
We also wanted to emphasize that this facility earned near flawless health inspections recently. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this area. Our inspection grades are based on several datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that excel in this category typically have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This nursing home was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that the inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Remember that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in the industry.
Nurse Quality
Another reason we rated this nursing home so highly is that it received an A+ nursing grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. There are a variety of datapoints included in this grade. Many of these criteria reflect the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. With 4.1 hours of nursing care per patient daily, this nursing home surpassed the overwhelming majority of facilities. Lastly, this nursing home also excelled in the quality measures we assessed. For example, it fared as well as any facility Alabama in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We look at these statistics as reliable indicators of the caliber of nursing care being provided.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we graded is long-term care. This facility received an above average long-term care score, with a grade of B+ in this category. Nursing homes that excel in this category tend to provide residents with better supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. In addition to providing elite levels of nursing care and other staffing, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 98.07692 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients out of the hospital. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.41 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home.
Short-term Care Quality
Moving on to the last area, this facility also excelled in our short-term care category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of B+ for this category. This rounded out a very impressive report card. In the category of short-term care, we seek to evaluate measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We assess a facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. The last measure we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents that who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. This place performed better than most nursing homes in this area with 50.6 percent of its patients returning home. With most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-stay residents are able to return home.
