Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

Although we did not rate this facility favorably overall, we want to point out its nearly flawless inspections in recent years. We awarded them an A- in this category. Our inspection scores account for several factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid places with a bunch of deficiencies flagged. This facility was assessed 8 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies to cause an imminent risk to resident health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. Nursing proved to be its second best category grade. In that category, we awarded this nursing home an C. In computing our nursing scores, we analyze both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the levels of licensure of the nurses. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This figure is significantly below the national average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place excelled in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. In fact, it performed well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good measures of the quality of nursing care. In some cases, the quality of nursing care is just as important as the number of hours of care offered.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

We gave this facility just a D for our long-term care grade. This is well below average in this category. Nursing homes that don't fare well in long-term care typically are not as well-staffed and are lagging in some of the areas of routine healthcare services we looked at. On top of considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. We were a bit alarmed this nursing home vaccinated a relatively low 44.578312 percent of its patients. Surprisingly, this nursing home was actually decent at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This is its best score in this category.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The last area we rated was short-term care. Unfortunately, we gave it a lowly F for this category, which is a poor score. Our short-term care grades are considered to be more important for those needing a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates additional skilled nursing services. This includes not only nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Considering its weak score in this category, we were not stunned to discover this place offered significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. The last statistic we considered in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.6 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor metrics doomed this facility's short-term care grade.
