Facility Inspections
In addition to being a respectable facility overall, this place really excelled in the area of inspections, where it received an A+. Few facilities performed better in this area. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these are relatively insignificant. This nursing home was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that CMS didn't consider any of these deficiencies an imminent threat to resident health or safety. A few minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.
Long-term Care Quality
This facilities second best category was long-term care. We gave it a B- in this area. This is essentially a slightly below average score in this area. For residents looking for a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination statistics. We were optimistic to learn that this facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Finally, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality
The next area we looked at was nursing, where we gave this facility an F. This was definitely one of this facility's major weaknesses. Nursing ratings are primarily tied to a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This facility averaged only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is not a very impressive figure. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing ratings. This place fared well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these statistics to be reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we graded is short-term care, which ended up being this facility's weakest area. Unfortunately, we gave it an F in this category, which is certainly a major disappointment. In computing our short-term care grades, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to create a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Given its score in this area, we weren't stunned to find that this facility was well below average in terms of the number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its patients based on the figures we looked at. Finally, we considered the percentage of patients who eventually returned home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.3 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
