Facility Inspections
While this facility's overall grade was not bad, it really fared well in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Inspection grades account for several factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher scores in this category generally have very few severe deficiencies. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also received an impressive long-term care score. Indeed, we awarded it a B+ in this area, which is one of our better. If you are seeking anything other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each facility's long-term care grades. One of the criteria we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccines. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 81.02435 percent of its patients. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we hoped for, at least this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality
Next, we looked at the nursing category where we gave this nursing home an F. This is certainly not one of this facility's better areas. In determining a facility's nursing rating, we consider the quantity of hours nurses are seeing residents as well as the skill levels of those nurses. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing ratings. This place fared well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these statistics to be reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we looked at was short-term care, which is this facility's weakest category. We gave it a lowly F in this category, which is clearly concerning. In the category of short-term care, we endeavor to qualify measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and various therapists. With a grade in this range for this area, we weren't stunned to discover this facility was below average in several staffing figures we looked at. In fact, it offered significantly fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most facilities. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
