Medical Staff Hours Per Patient (2019)
To pair with a strong overall score, we awarded this nursing home an A+ for our inspection category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection grades. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be relatively minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
We also wanted to note the fact that this facility performed well in our short-term care category. We awarded them an elite grade of A+ in this category. In forming our short-term care scores, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to create a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of various facilities. Remarkably, this place provides approximately 1.5 times as many hours of services from registered nurses and physical therapists than most nursing homes we assessed. This is certainly an excellent sign. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in the nation with 65.7 percent of its patients returning home.
Adding to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category. The nursing category is based on many factors, most of which are associated with levels of nurse staffing. This facility provided 5.5 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This was one of the better figures we found. Furthermore, we found that a significant percentage of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. In addition to providing impressive levels of care, this place also excelled in the quality measures we assessed. For example, it performed as well as any nursing home in the state when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We view these areas as good indicators of the caliber of nursing care offered.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we looked at is long-term care. This nursing home received a strong nursing grade in our assessment, with a B. Although this wasn't quite as elite as a few of its other grades, this is still one of the stronger scores in this area. For patients in need of a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are a key measure. One of the factors we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccines. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that this nursing home provided data regarding vaccinations. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
