Facility Inspections
We want to point out that this facility really outperformed its overall grade in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best grades in this category with a grade of A-. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection scores. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these are relatively minor. This place was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe. This tells you that the inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple of minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.
Long-term Care Quality
In addition, we awarded this facility a grade of B+ in our long-term care category. This is one of our better grades. Nursing homes that do well in this category typically provide patients with more supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia can be a deadly ailment for nursing home residents so we prefer when a facility doesn't leave this to chance. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality
We also gave this nursing home a decent score in the category of nursing care, with a grade of C. The nursing score analyzes several components, many of which are tied to quantities of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.5 hours of nursing care per patient each day, which is not an impressive total. Finally, despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this facility performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is usually an indicator that a place has sufficient quality controls in place.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we assessed was short-term care. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F in this area, which is a bottom of the barrel grade. This is certainly a major disappointment. In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to assess indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.1 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
