While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable inspection report this year. As a result, it received a decent grade in that category with a score of B-. Inspection scores weigh a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.

This facility also didn't grade out terribly in the category of short-term care. In fact, we awarded it a grade of C in that area, which is another one of its higher scores. Our short-term care grades are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a broad spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides more care with registered nurses to its residents than the average nursing home. The last datapoint we assessed in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 41.6 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is actually below average.

Turning to the area of nursing care, this facility received a grade of just D in this category. We analyzed the levels of nurses employed by the facility, in addition to the number of hours the nurses were with patients, in computing our rating in this area. This nursing home provided just 2.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This figure is significantly below the national average. To pair with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this nursing home also did not fare as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of residents sustaining pressure ulcers and major falls. This facility had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average facility. This may be a bad sign when you consider that many falls and bed sores are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. These metrics pulled down this nursing home's nursing grade quite a bit.

The next category we graded is long-term care, in which this facility received a bottom of the barrel grade here also. It received an abysmal F in this category, which is obviously very concerning. When facilities receive a score in this range in long-term care it generally means the nursing home didn't perform well in our measures relating to resident care. On top of considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 72.268906 percent of its residents. This is quite a bit below average. Unfortunately, this nursing home's hospitalization rate was also disappointing. We found that this place had 2.49 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an alarming rate.
