Although we gave this nursing home a terrible overall score, we gave it a B- for our nursing category. The nursing score weighs a number of factors. The most important one is the amount of time nurses spent with residents. This facility averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, which is not an impressive total. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home actually excelled in some of the quality measures we looked at. In fact, it performed well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.

We were also surprised to find that this nursing home received a reasonably solid long-term care score in our assessment. We awarded it a grade of C in this area. In our long-term care assessment, we assess the volume of care provided by a nursing home, as well as some quality statistics. Once we finished looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination records. Frankly, we were a bit alarmed this nursing home vaccinated a relatively low 45.76271 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Nevertheless, this place was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

We also wanted to draw your attention to this nursing home's inspection grades where it received an F. This generally means we found some red flags on the inspection reports. When a place has this bad of an inspection grade, you should look for severe deficiencies on its inspection report. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to the well being of residents. This particular facility had 7 deficiencies by government inspectors. The only positive thing we found is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that indicate they posed a risk to patient safety or health. Lastly, we want to point out that this facility was assessed large government fines in recent years totaling over $100,000. This generally suggests that a bad track record spanned multiple years.

The last area we analyzed was short-term care. Unfortunately, we gave it an F for this category, which is a very poor score. In computing our short-term care ratings, we scrutinize the nursing home's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. This score is generally a solid assessment of the facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. Given its weak rating in this category, we weren't stunned to learn that this nursing home provides substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most facilities.
