While this facility's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually didn't perform terribly in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a C for that category, which is one of our better scores. Inspection ratings are based on several datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these reports. Severe deficiencies indicate a threat to resident safety. This nursing home was hit with 7 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were in any of the categories labeled G through L. This indicates it avoided the more serious categories of deficiencies. Finally, we would like to point out that this nursing home was assessed some government fines in recent years. We were relieved to find that these were not on the high end as government fines go. Nevertheless, this isn't what you like to find.

One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing score. Nursing proved to be its second best category grade. In that area, we gave this nursing home an D. Our nursing rating looks at the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of training of those nurses and the quantity of hours spent with residents. This facility averaged just 2.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing scores. This place fared well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these statistics to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care.

Sadly, this facility only earned a grade of D for its long-term care rating, which is not an impressive grade. For prospective residents looking for a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. One of the statistics we considered after nursing hours is vaccinations. Thankfully, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to 99.583336 percent of its residents. The last statistic we looked at is the facility's hospitalization rate. We found that this place didn't perform quite as well here, with 1.74 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.

The next area we graded was short-term care. Sadly, it received a lowly F for this category, which is a bottom of the barrel score. Our short-term care grade is often employed to assess a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. To provide highly graded rehabilitation services, facilities generally must have better levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The last statistic we assessed in this area is the percentage of patients that returned home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 24.3 percent of its residents returning home. This was well below the national average.
