Long-term Care Quality
We gave this facility one of our better scores in our long-term care rating, where it received a B+. Nursing homes that do well in this category typically provide residents with closer supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 98.17881 percent of its residents. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients out of the hospital. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. This proved to be its second best category grade. In that area, we gave this nursing home an B. There are quite a few subcategories included in this area. Most of the datapoints relate to the quantity of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a system of moving residents more often.

Short-term Care Quality
The third area we analyzed was short-term care, where this facility received a B- in this area. In computing our short-term care ratings, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to formulate a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. We were surprised to find that this facility was below average in the two key staffing areas we assessed. It offered fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. The final measure we considered in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that just 4.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is actually below average.
Facility Inspections
Looking to our final category of inspections, we gave this nursing home a grade of just just D, which is a relatively poor grade. Our inspection score is based on the facility's inspections. Since this information is collected by government inspectors, we place a great deal of weight on it in our overall grades. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining our inspection grades. One of those factors is health deficiencies. We would pay close attention to the level of severity of the deficiencies. This nursing home was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only favorable thing we found is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that indicate they caused a risk to resident safety or health. Lastly, this nursing home also was assessed significant government fines in recent years.
