Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the reasons this place ended up being a great nursing home is it earned an A+ in our inspections category. This is just about as good as it gets in this critical area. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection ratings. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being relatively minor. This facility received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe. This tells you that the inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies to be an imminent risk to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

This top notch facility also was superb in the area of short-term care, where it received a grade of A+. Very few nursing homes performed better in this area. In determining our short-term care scores, we look at a facility's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. This score is considered to be a reliable measure of a facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents who ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Turning our next area, this facility was awarded a top-shelf long-term care grade. In fact, it received a score of A in that area. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is significantly higher than most nursing homes. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

In the last category we assessed, this facility was given a very strong grade of A in our nursing category. With this score, the nursing home wrapped up a straight A report card. Our nursing grade weighs a handful of subcategories, most of which are associated with nursing hours. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
