Facility Inspections
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. Our inspection grades account for several factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher scores in this area usually have few severe deficiencies. While this facility had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
Adding to its profile, this facility also earned a grade of B+ for its short-term care rating. This is a well above average score in this category. In the area of short-term care, we try to assess indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final item we assessed in this category is the number of patients who eventually returned home from the nursing home. This proved to be more of a strength for this facility. We found that it fared as well as just about any nursing home in Florida in this area with 61.9 percent of its residents returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility was given a favorable long-term care score as well. We gave it one of our better grades in that category with a score of B. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. In addition to considering the well above average volume of care provided by nurses and other staff at this nursing home, we also were happy with the facility's vaccination statistics. For example, this facility gave the pneumonia vaccine to 99.70326 percent of its patients, which is an impressive figure. Finally, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. With 1.74 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this place was just about middle of the road in this area.
Nurse Quality
Switching gears to our fourth area, this nursing home was given a respectable nursing grade. Even though this wasn't nearly as good as some of its other category grades, this is still not a terrible score. The nursing rating includes numerous factors. The most important factor is the amount of time nurses spend with patients. With 4.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day, this facility surpassed the majority of nursing homes. Finally, our nursing scores also factor in quality measures, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this metric.
