Facility Inspections
While this nursing home's overall grade was not a highlight, it actually excelled in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it an A- for that area, which is one of our best scores. Arguably the most important factor we consider in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. It is generally in your best interest to avoid nursing homes that had too many deficiencies. This place was hit with 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This indicates that the inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies to create an imminent threat to resident safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
In addition, we also wanted to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home was awarded strong long-term care marks this year. We gave them one of our more impressive scores in that area, with a grade of B+. This turned out to be the facility's second highest score. When nursing homes receive this kind of grade in long-term care it is a good sign for resident care and suggests that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses aids. After considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 99.57806 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients healthy. The last statistic we looked at was its hospitalization rate. Here we found that this nursing home had 3.06 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Although this wasn't as favorable as some of its other scores in this area, this number may be skewed for some facilities due to the medical complexity of residents.
Nurse Quality
In addition, we gave this facility an F in the area of nursing care. We scrutinized the skill-level of nurses employed by the nursing home, in addition to the quantity of time the nurses were with patients, in computing our score in this category. This facility provided a meager 2.9 hours of nursing care per resident daily. To pair with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this nursing home also did not perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing scores. We looked at the percent of residents sustaining pressure ulcers and major falls. This place had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average nursing home.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we graded is short-term care. This facility received an abysmal grade of F in this category. Our short-term care scores are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a wide spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, in addition to other types of therapy. Given its score in this area, we weren't stunned to find that this place was well below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its residents based on the data we looked at. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 22.4 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
