Facility Inspections

Grade: A

One of the reasons this turned out to be a strong nursing home is that it received a very impressive inspection rating. Inspections turned out to be its best category. In this category, we gave this facility a grade of A. Inspection ratings account for several factors found on a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better grades in this category generally have very few severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This tells you the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. We should note that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in the industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This nursing home truly excelled in the category of short-term care, where it received a grade of A. Only a select group of nursing homes performed more favorably in this area. In the area of short-term care, we try to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. When we assessed this facility's nursing hours, we found it offered substantially more care from registered nurses than most facilities. The last metric we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. It performed as well as just about any nursing home in Ohio in this area with 61.1 percent of its patients returning home. For most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-stay residents ever return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

Adding to its profile, this facility also earned a grade of B for its nursing rating. This is a well above average score in this category. Our nursing score assesses a handful of factors, but the most important one is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home boasts a really impressive 4.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day, of which a significant percentage was provided by registered nurses. This is one of the more highly trained levels of nurses. On top of looking at levels of nursing care, we also looked at a few quality measures in determining our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these areas as good indicators of the quality of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The last area we rated is long-term care. In that area, we awarded this nursing home an acceptable grade of C. This is this facility's least impressive category. Our long-term care scores are more important for residents in need of more conventional services associated with personal care. In addition to impressive nursing hour statistics, this nursing home's vaccination record is better than most nursing homes also. Indeed, it vaccinated 98.51852 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.68 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
