Facility Inspections
To pair with its relatively modest overall grade, we gave this nursing home a grade of A- for its inspection grade. This is far more impressive than the facility's overall rating. Arguably the most significant factor we consider in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher grades in this category most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This facility was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe. This means that CMS did not deem any of these deficiencies an immediate risk to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Long-term Care Quality
The second best area we gave this nursing home in any category came in the area of long-term care, where we gave it a grade of C. In determining our long-term care grades, we look at the personal care received by the facility's patients. On top of considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients. This place keeps its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
This facilities third best area is short-term care. We gave it a C in this area. This is basically a middle of the pack score in this area. In forming our short-term care grades, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to create a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The more important thing is determining what effect this had on quality of care. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients that who were able to eventually return home from this facility. We found that 4.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually quite a bit below the national average.
Nurse Quality
The final area we rated is nursing. We gave this nursing home a C in this category. In calculating a nursing home's nursing grade, we look at the amount of time nurses are caring for patients as well as the skill levels of those nurses. This nursing home averages just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Lastly, despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this facility performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is usually an indicator that a place has sufficient quality controls in place.
