Facility Inspections
On top of faring well overall, this nursing home also received a nearly flawless inspection report. Therefore, it earned one of our best grades in that category with a grade of A+. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so favorably is that it was given a strong long-term care score. In fact, long-term care ended up being its second highest category grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a score of A-. Nursing homes that receive this type of grade in long-term care tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure patients are kept in good health. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is far higher than most nursing homes. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
Turning to another strength for this nursing home, we awarded them one of our higher grades in our short-term care category as well, with a B. Short-term care grades are crucial for residents looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires more highly-skilled nursing. This means a broad spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 4.5 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
Nurse Quality
The next category we scored turned out to be this nursing home's worst area. Nevertheless, even in its weakest link we still gave it a respectable grade of B- for our nursing category. In calculating our nursing grades, we weigh both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the training levels of the nurses. This particular facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This figure is significantly below the national average. Lastly, our nursing grades also consider some quality-focused metrics. We especially like to look at the percent of residents who sustained pressure ulcers and major falls. These metrics are measures of the quality of nursing care, since better care can reduce these problems.
