Facility Inspections
In addition to being a top notch facility overall, it also performed well in the area of inspections, where it received an A. Not many facilities performed better in this category. Our inspection ratings weigh a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better grades in this area tend to have very few severe deficiencies. While this place had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This tells you the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies aren't something to panic about.
Short-term Care Quality
We also would like to point out the fact that this nursing home was given a first-rate grade of A- in our short-term care category. In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to evaluate measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We analyze a facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides a greater volume of physical therapist hours to its residents than the average nursing home. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of facilities in the country with 68.6 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category. The nursing rating includes a host of factors. The most important one is the amount of time nurses spend with residents. This place provided 3.9 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is an impressive statistic which typically corresponds with higher quality care. Lastly, this nursing home also excelled in the quality measures we looked at. For example, it fared as well as any nursing home California in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these datapoints as predictive measures of the caliber of nursing care provided.
Long-term Care Quality
In the final area, we gave this facility an A for our long-term care rating. This completed a first-rate profile. Nursing homes that do well in this category typically provide patients with better supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is significantly higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. The last statistic we looked at is the facility's hospitalization rate. We found that this place had 2.04 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
