Facility Inspections
We also wanted to emphasize that this nursing home has received near flawless health inspections recently. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some are quite insignificant. This facility received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that CMS didn't deem any of these deficiencies to pose an immediate threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home performed well in the area of long-term care. As a result, we awarded it a grade of A- for that area, which happens to be one of our most favorable grades. Long-term care grades of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is far higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
Additionally, this facility also was awarded favorable short-term care scores in our assessment. In fact, we gave them one of our more favorable scores in that category, with a grade of B+. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we scrutinize a facility's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. This grade is typically a reliable assessment of the facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we considered the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
Nurse Quality
The final area we rated is nursing, which is this facility's weakest area. We gave this nursing home a grade of D in that category. Nevertheless, you shouldn't assess this nursing home solely on a single category, as it had a few superb scores in other categories. There are numerous criteria included in this category. Many of these criteria reflect the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Unfortunately, this facility also did not perform as well as we had hoped in some of the quality measures we looked at in this category.
