Finally, despite not having the highest total nursing hours, this nursing home actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is generally a reliable indicator that a nursing home has sufficient quality controls in place.

This facility's short-term care score appears to be one of its best scores. The nursing home was given a grade of B- in this area. In computing our short-term care grades, we look at a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. This category is considered to be a useful assessment of a nursing home's rehabilitation. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. The final item we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 5.1 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is actually below average.

Lastly, this nursing home received a C. Inspection grades relate to a nursing home's government inspections. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection scores. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being quite insignificant.
