Facility Inspections
On top of performing well overall, this nursing home earned a nearly flawless inspection report. As a result, it received one of our best scores in this area with a grade of A. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection ratings. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some are relatively minor. This place was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe. This tells you that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies to create an immediate risk to patient health or safety. A couple relatively minor dings aren't necessarily something to panic about.
Short-term Care Quality
On the list of its many elite scores, this nursing home was awarded a top-shelf short-term care score. In fact, we gave it a grade of A in that area. Our short-term care ratings are likely more critical for residents needing a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means not only nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. This facility excelled in the two key staffing areas we looked at. The facility supplied more care from registered nurses and physical therapists than a typical facility. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients that ultimately were able to return home from this facility. On top of excelling in the area of physical therapy staffing, we found that it fared as well as just about any nursing home in the country with 59.1 percent of its residents returning home. Most nursing homes are below 50 percent in this metric.
Nurse Quality
This facility received a very good nursing grade this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B+. The nursing score analyzes many components, however, the primary one is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility offers an extremely impressive 4.6 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is among the more impressive figures in the country. Lastly, this nursing home also performed well in several of the quality-based metrics we assessed. By way of illustration, in terms of the number of its patients suffering falls leading to major injury, this nursing home performed as well as any nursing home in the state. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Long-term Care Quality
Switching gears to the fourth area, this facility was awarded a very strong long-term care score. While this wasn't quite as dominant as several of its other category grades, this remains one of our more favorable scores we offer. Facilities that do well in long-term care typically are well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. On top of patient-friendly nursing hour statistics, this nursing home's vaccination records was superb as well. In fact, this facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Finally, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this place had 3.56 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. While this admittedly wasn't as impressive as some of its other scores in this area, this statistic may be skewed for some facilities based on some of the medical complexity of residents.
