Facility Inspections
While we graded this nursing home incredibly poorly overall, it actually received a fairly impressive inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our more favorable grades in that category with a B+. Inspection grades are based on pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these inspections. Most importantly, you should avoid nursing homes with severe deficiencies linked to endangerment of patients. This place received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies to pose an imminent risk to resident health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's second most respectable score was long-term care, but even there it earned a grade of just D in that category. This is still a well below average score. Facilities that don't score well in long-term care often do not provide as much nursing care and also may be lagging in some of the areas of routine personal care we assessed. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Candidly, we were a bit alarmed this nursing home gave the vaccine to only 88.64469 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. This is its best feature in this category.

Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home ended up receiving a a very poor grade in our short-term care category. It received a lowly F in this area. Short-term care ratings are based in part on the nursing home's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a wide scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. As you might expect, we found that this place provides substantially less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than the typical facility. The final metric we assessed in this category is the number of residents who eventually returned home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 4.1 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
The next area we graded is nursing. This facility received a rock bottom grade of F in that category. In calculating a facility's nursing score, we weigh the quantity of hours nurses spend with residents as well as the level of licensure of the nurses. With only 0.2 hours of nursing care per resident daily, this place's nurse staffing levels were well below the national average. Unfortunately, this facility also had abysmal marks in some of the quality-based measures to go along with its weak nursing hours. We looked at the percent of patients suffering pressure ulcers and we were quite disappointed. This nursing home was at approximately 150 percent of the national average in this area.
