Facility Inspections

Grade: A

While we were not high on this nursing home overall, we awarded it an A for our inspections rating. This score is far more impressive than the nursing home's overall grade. Inspection scores weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid places with too many deficiencies flagged. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

We also awarded this facility a middle of the pack score in the category of long-term care, where we gave it a grade of C. Our long-term care ratings are meaningful for patients requiring personal care. Once we finished looking at the amount of care provided by nurses, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination statistics. Frankly, we were a bit alarmed this nursing home vaccinated only 83.544304 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Fortunately, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

We also wanted to point out that this nursing home received an F for its nursing grade. Our nursing grade is mostly associated with the nursing home's nurse staffing. This facility averaged a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is an alarmingly low total. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. This nursing home performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these metrics to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The final area we graded is short-term care. This facility was given a rock bottom grade of F in that area. Our short-term care ratings are thought to be most meaningful for residents requiring rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation typically utilizes additional skilled nursing services. This includes not only nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. With a grade this poor in this category, we weren't shocked to discover this facility was below average in multiple staffing areas we looked at. The nursing home supplied significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Finally, we considered the percentage of patients that who were able to eventually return home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
