Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to being a great overall grade, this facility also received A+ health inspections in recent years. Its inspections were virtually flawless. Our inspection ratings are tied to several items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that excel in this category have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 98.993286 percent of its patients, which is much higher than most nursing homes. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.15 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than the average nursing home.

Grade: B

Turning to another strength for this nursing home, we awarded them one of our better scores in our short-term care category as well, with a grade of B. With our short-term care category, we strive to create a valuable gauge for rehabilitation. In doing so, we assess the facility's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home, which as an area this nursing home performed much more favorably. It outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in the country in this area with 58 percent of its residents returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most facilities.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

The last area we scored ended up being this nursing home's poorest category. Nevertheless, even in its weakest link we still gave it a respectable grade of B- in nursing. Nursing ratings are based largely on quality and quantity of nursing care. This particular nursing home provided 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these statistics. With fewer than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed very well in this area. This is often a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as employing a protocol of turning patients even once per day.
