Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

We want to draw your attention to the fact that this facility outperformed its overall grade in the category of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless government inspection report this year. As a result, we gave it one of our highest grades in this area with an A-. Our inspection grades are tied to datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that excel in this category have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. While this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's second best area was long-term care. We gave it a B- in this area. This is basically a middle of the road grade in this category. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary objective is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Thankfully, this nursing home provided the vaccine to 99.35898 percent of its patients, which is a very solid datapoint. This nursing home was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

We also gave this nursing home a decent score in the category of nursing care, with a grade of C. Our nursing rating is based on a handful of datapoints, however, the most important consideration is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a relatively low total compared with most other facilities. Lastly, despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this place performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is generally an indicator that a nursing home has sufficient quality controls in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

This facility's worst category was short-term care, which is the final category we assessed. We gave it a lowly F for this area. Despite some decent grades in other categories, this score is nevertheless concerning so we wanted to make sure you are aware. Our short-term care scores are arguably more critical for individuals in need of a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires higher levels of skilled nursing. This means not just nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Given its score in this area, we weren't stunned to learn that this nursing home is well below average in terms of its number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents based on the data we looked at. Honestly, this was about what we expected here. The last datapoint we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents that ultimately returned home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 4.5 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, this was quite a bit below the national average.
