Registered Staff Hours
Nurse Quality
While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable nursing grade this year. We gave it a grade of B- in that category. We assessed the skill-level of nurses employed by the facility, in addition to the quantity of hours those nurses spent with residents, in computing our grade in this area. This nursing home averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Finally, although this nursing home got dinged a bit for its nursing hours, it excelled in a few of our quality measures. With less than five percent of its patients experiencing pressure ulcers, it fared remarkably well in this metric.
Short-term Care Quality
We were also pleasantly surprised to find that this nursing home earned a solid short-term care rating in our assessment. We gave it a grade of C in that category. Our short-term care grades are considered to be more critical for folks requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally requires more highly-skilled nursing. This includes not just nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. In this nursing home's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than the typical facility. The hope is always that this does not adversely impact the quality of care. The last measure we considered in this area is the percentage of residents who eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 4.5 percent of this facility's residents returned home. This figure was below the national average.

Facility Inspections
Unfortunately, with a grade of D in the inspection category, this facility performed relatively poorly in that area. One of the more important factors in assessing inspection reports is deficiencies. We recommend you scrutinize the severity of those deficiencies. This particular nursing home was hit with 8 deficiencies by CMS. The only favorable thing we can say is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that indicate that they created a threat to patient safety or health. Finally, we also need to point out that this facility was assessed significant government fines in recent years amounting to over $100,000. This generally suggests that a poor track record spanned multiple years.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we rated is long-term care, in which this nursing home was given a poor score here also. We gave it a lowly F in this category, which is obviously very concerning. Nursing homes that receive this type of score in long-term care may not provide the type of consistent around the clock care that some other facilities offer. Once we concluded our assessment of the quantity of nursing care, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination data. We were a bit concerned this facility vaccinated just 70 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Surprisingly, this nursing home actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This is its best feature in this category.
