Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received a very impressive inspection rating. In fact, inspections turned out to be its best category grade. In this area, we gave this facility an A+. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection ratings. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some are relatively insignificant. This place received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered severe. This indicates that the inspectors did not consider any of these deficiencies an imminent risk to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility really excelled in the category of long-term care, where we awarded it a score of A. Only a select group of facilities performed more favorably in this category. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in long-term care typically provide consistent around the clock care to make sure residents are well cared for. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia tragically can be a dangerous health condition for nursing home patients so we like it when a nursing home doesn't take any chances. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of C. While this didn't quite match its scores in some of the categories discussed above, this is still a decent score. Our nursing score is primarily based on a nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home provided just 3.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is a low total compared to most facilities. While this nursing home didn't really impress in terms of the quantity of nursing care provided, it performed admirably in a few of our quality-based metrics. It was above average in two of the major statistics we assess, with favorable scores for minimizing its patients' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Short-term Care Quality
The final category we scored was short-term care. We gave it a C in this area. This is a decent grade in this category. In determining our short-term care ratings, we analyze a facility's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other types of therapists. This score is often a fair assessment of a nursing home's rehabilitation. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. The last item we considered in this category is the percentage of patients who eventually returned home from the facility. This facility performed better in this statistic. It performed better than most nursing homes in this area with 53 percent of its patients returning home.
