Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

In addition to receiving a strong overall grade, this nursing home fared well in long-term care. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category, which is one of our highest scores. When facilities receive this type of score in this category it is a good sign for patient care and indicates that the facility is well-staffed with nurses aids. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents out of the hospital. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition, this facility earned top notch health inspections in recent years. We awarded them one of our better grades in that category, with an A. Inspection ratings are tied to datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspections. Nursing homes that score well in this category tend to have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This nursing home received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to cause an imminent risk to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home also received a strong nursing score. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B+ in this area. Our nursing score looks at the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We weigh both the levels of training of those nurses and the quantity of hours spent with patients. This particular nursing home provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a policy of turning patients more frequently.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The last category we scored was short-term care, where this nursing home was given a grade of B. This nursing home proved to be very solid across the board. Our short-term care scores are believed to be most meaningful for those needing rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation typically mandates higher levels of skilled nursing services. This includes not only nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. It doesn't look like this facility submitted registered nurse or physical therapist staffing data. The last item we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
