Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home didn't perform quite as poorly in long-term care. We awarded it a grade of C for that category. Long-term care grades are based in part on the facility's volume of care. This means a broad range of personal care services, ranging from assistance with activities of daily living to routine medical services. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. This facility was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Interestingly, this facility's terrible overall grade can't really be attributed to its inspection reports. We gave it a C for inspections. We would argue that one of the most important factors in assessing an inspection report is deficiencies. We especially look at the severity of those deficiencies. This nursing home was assessed 7 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to find that none were category G through L deficiencies. This tells you that it avoided the more ominous categories of deficiencies. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received significant government fines in recent years.
Does this page answer your questions about Homeplace Manor Healthcare Center?
We were surprised to find that this facility also excelled in nursing. In fact, we gave it an impressive grade of D for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Our nursing grade focuses on the facility's level of nurse staffing. We look at both the levels of training of the nurses as well as the quantity of hours spent with residents. This place offered a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is well below average. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing ratings. This facility performed well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we graded is short-term care, where this nursing home was given a bottom of the barrel grade in this area as well. We gave it an abysmal F for this area, which is definitely a major concern. In calculating our short-term care grades, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to devise a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The last item we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar metrics doomed this nursing home's short-term care grade.
