This facility received a quality overall grade as described above, but we especially want to emphasize its excellent government inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A in this category. These inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

Adding to this facility's list of accomplishments, it also was given a top-shelf short-term care score. We gave them an elite grade of A- in this area. Our short-term care grades are crucial for people looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates additional skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a wide scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. This nursing home excelled at the highest level in two key staffing areas we assessed. It provided about 50% more care from physical therapists and registered nurses than the average facility. The final statistic we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. This facility was better than average with 52.5 percent of its residents returning home.

In addition, this facility also received favorable nursing grades this year. In fact, we awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B. Our nursing grade is based on several factors, many of which are associated with nursing hours. This place provided 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. About one-fourth of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most skilled levels of nurses. This is an impressive percentage of skilled nursing care. We weight these hours performed by skilled nurses more in calculating our nursing ratings. Finally, we also looked at certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these areas as reliable measures of the caliber of nursing care offered, since better care tends to reduce these problems.

The last area we looked at is long-term care. This facility was given a favorable long-term care score in our assessment, with a grade of B-. Even though this was not quite as elite as several of its other category grades, this is still a respectable grade in that area. Our long-term care scores are critical for prospective residents seeking personal care. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. We were optimistic to learn that this nursing home vaccinated 94.21966 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Lastly, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this nursing home had 2.27 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, this figure was not quite as favorable than its other scores in this category.
