Short-term Care Quality
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great facility is that it earned a very impressive short-term care grade. This turned out to be its best category. In that category, we gave this facility an A. In determining our short-term care scores, we assess a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This area is typically a reliable assessment of the nursing home's rehabilitation. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last item we looked at in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that 6 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
Facility Inspections
This facility has received near flawless health inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A in this category. Inspection grades account for a host of factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher grades in this area usually have few of these severe deficiencies. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in this industry.

Nurse Quality
This facility received a very good nursing grade this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B+. We scrutinized the skill-level of nurses at the facility, in addition to the number of hours those nurses were with patients, in determining our rating in this category. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to the fourth category, this nursing home was given an acceptable long-term care score. Even though this wasn't quite as elite as several of its other scores, this is still not the end of the world. For prospective residents seeking a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. After we finished assessing the amount of care provided by nurses, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination records. We were pleased to learn that this facility vaccinates 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia. This nursing home was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
