Facility Inspections
On top of being a first rate nursing home overall, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned a grade of A+. Very few places fared this well in this area. Inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Unfortunately, we were not able to locate deficiency counts for this nursing home. Without having access to deficiency data for this facility, it is difficult to really evaluate it in this category.
Short-term Care Quality
Among its many dominant grades, this nursing home was given a top-shelf short-term care score. In fact, we gave it a grade of A- in that category. Our short-term care grade is commonly used to assess a facility's performance with rehabilitation. To have good rehabilitation services, facilities generally must feature better levels of skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. When we looked at this facility's physical therapist hours, we found it offered more hours of physical therapy per day to its residents than most nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who returned home from this facility. On top of excelling in the area of physical therapy, we found that it fared as well as just about any facility with 58 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home also received a very impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A-. Our nursing score includes several factors, many of which are tied to quantities of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at a few quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place excelled in these areas, with excellent scores for minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care a nursing home provides.
Long-term Care Quality
The last category we looked at proved to be this nursing home's poorest area. Nevertheless, even its worst category would likely be a highlight for many nursing homes. We gave it an above average grade of B in our long-term care category. When facilities receive a grade in this range in this category it typically means it's well-staffed and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. After we finished assessing the volume of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 99.176956 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia sadly is often a dangerous condition for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a facility doesn't take any chances. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
