In addition to being an elite nursing home overall, this nursing home also performed well in our inspections category, where it earned an A+. Very few places fared this well in this area. Inspection grades weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher scores in this area usually have few of these severe deficiencies. This place was hit with 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to pose an immediate risk to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

We also wanted to point out the fact that this facility fared very well in our short-term care category. We awarded them an elite grade of A+ in this area. In crafting these short-term care grades, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to devise a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last metric we considered in this category is the number of residents that eventually returned home from the facility. We found that 6.6 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

We also wanted to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home was awarded a strong grade of A in our long-term care category. Nursing homes that receive this type of grade in this category typically provide consistent around the clock care to ensure residents are kept in good health. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents out of the hospital. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Switching gears to the fourth area, this nursing home also performed admirably in the nursing category. In fact, we awarded it an A for that area. This finalized truly elite profile. Our nursing rating is largely associated with the facility's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these areas as good measures of the quality of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
