Long-term Care Quality
One of the main reasons this proved to be a strong nursing home is that it earned a very impressive long-term care grade. This ended up being its best grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home an impressive grade of A+. Facilities that do well in long-term care tend to provide residents with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. After considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is much higher than most nursing homes. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Facility Inspections
We also wanted to emphasize this nursing home's nearly flawless health inspections recently. We gave them an impressive grade of A- in this area. Inspection ratings account for several factors found on a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better grades in this area usually have few severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home received 8 deficiencies on its inspection report. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of B-. While this didn't quite match its scores in some of the categories discussed above, this is still a decent score. Our nursing grade analyzes the facility's nurse staffing levels. We consider both the levels of licensure of those nurses and the quantity of hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, our nursing scores also consider quality-based measures, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this facility actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is generally a good indicator that a place has quality controls in place. Some falls could be avoided if a nursing home provides enough nurses aids to assist its residents.
Short-term Care Quality
Moving on to the fourth category, this nursing home was given a respectable short-term care score of C. In calculating these short-term care grades, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The goal is to create a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that this facility submitted information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.
