Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

To pair with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for its nursing grade. When facilities receive a score in this range in this category it typically means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is much higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

This facility also received an A+ inspection score, making it one of the rare facilities to receive multiple A+'s in our categories. Inspection ratings are tied to many pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this category have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This facility was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies to pose an immediate threat to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility received an impressive grade of A- in our nursing category. When calculating a nursing home's nursing score, we weigh the number of hours nurses commit to residents and the skill levels of the nurses. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The final category we graded was short-term care, where this nursing home received a B. Believe it or not, this ended up being this facility's worst area. A nursing home is doing something right when it's lowest score still outperforms most facilities. In the area of short-term care, we strive to evaluate indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We look at a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last measure we assessed in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We found that 4.2 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
